The Engage is easy to install and use. The sensor will clip onto your electricity meter, so it can measure the current that flows through it and measure your usage. Attached to this sensor is a wireless transmitter, which then transmits the reading to your wireless display or Wi-Fi enabled hub.
- Install the CT Sensors into your power meter fuse box.
There are a couple of options here, you can install the clamp either onto your mains incomer, this will check you overall power or you can install the CT Sensors onto a separate individual circuit like a Hot tub, Air-conditioner or solar systems circuit to measure individual power for an appliance or solar feed in.
Open the fuse box and look for the screws to take off the cable protection back plate. Once the plate is removed look for the cable you would like to monitor.
Most people like to monitor the power use for their whole house, this will be the largest cable it’s called the Mains Incoming cable. Clamp wherever it is convenient and place the transmitter somewhere safe and out-of-the-way. Power your switchboard board back up and check that you are seeing a reading of power usage.
Warning
There is no need for an electrician to do this power consumption meter install, as we are not disconnecting any wires. Please take care when removing any covers in your fuse circuit box. There are live cables here, either 110V or 240V or if using 3-phase power possible 415V. This is dangerous and electricity can kill so be careful. It’s a great idea to isolate all power beforehand from the main circuit breaker.
- Connect the Sensor(s) Jack Into the Transmitter
Plug in the sensor’s jack into the transmitter. Make sure you insert the sensor(s) jack first, then power on the transmitter. Open the Transmitter case and insert three AA batteries (not provided). If your fuse box is inside the house, mount the transmitter on the wall next to or above the electric panel.
- Power up the Engage Hub
- Plug the Engage Hub into a mains power source using the supplied AC adaptor, and into a spare port on a router with internet access using the LAN cable provided.
- The red light will light continuously, showing that the hub is powered on. The yellow light (centre) will come on next, indicating that the hub is looking for a transmitter within range. A green light states that a working internet connection has been connected to the hub.
- Within a minute or two you should see both the yellow light and green light come on and stay on solid for a few seconds and then go out. The lights may or may not illuminate at the same time. Once you see the yellow and green lights come on for a few seconds and then go out, you are ready to register your Engage Hub.
Note: If your router does not recognize your new hub, it may need to be reset. To do so, press the reset button or power cycle the router.
